This Is How They Work
At the end of 1990’s, the Canadian payroll industry consolidated. With only two significant payroll providers left in Manitoba, Barb Gamey, President and co-founder of Payworks, acknowledged the importance of creating a new and innovative payroll company. She shaped a company that brought together the substance of new computer technology and client centric service. Together these factors have moulded the foundation for rapid growth and success.
In 2000, the Payworks proprietary application was developed by people who truly understood the needs of the client. Since competitors were using old technology, Payworks became the most modern payroll platform available. The flexibility of the Payworks platform enabled the company to later emerge as a national leader in the industry, as well as be recognized as Canada’s fastest growing payroll and outsourcing alternative.
In 2001, Ms. Gamey drew up a business plan tailored around payroll and desktop technology. The plan had the power to stay pace with the new technologies that would be introduced in the upcoming years. Ms. Gamey understood that businesses had more to worry about than payroll and human resources. So she customized her business plan around just that. By 2002, Payworks was acquiring its first clients.
Payworks has experienced remarkable growth since its inception and continues to thrive.
Payworks has expanded from a few employees providing payroll services to a medium-sized business that provides innovative web-based Payroll, HR, and Employee Time Management solutions to businesses across Canada. In 2010, Deloitte ranked Payworks as one of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in Canada and was the only Manitoba-based business recognized.
Payworks is positioned at a national level, but is locally headquartered in Winnipeg. To stay on target with their competitors, Payworks has offices in Victoria, Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary, and Toronto, as well as an enthusiastic team of payroll professionals at their national service centre in Winnipeg.
“When we chose Winnipeg as the location for our national service centre, we knew that being centrally located in Canada would allow us to take advantage of the time zone to provide the broadest coverage to our national customers. As well, the stability of the workforce in Manitoba allows us to invest in our teams to provide the best possible support to our customers. Being known as ‘Friendly Manitoba’ doesn’t hurt either.” says Ms. Gamey.
Payworks believes less is more: ``less stress over your payroll, less hassle to get pay cheques out the door, less administrative restrictions so you can run your payroll whenever and wherever you want, all while creating less paper waste through our web-based payroll solutions.”
In today’s fast paced society, Payworks understands the need of ease, mobility and convenience. Payworks is devoted to enhancing their product and service portfolio, as well as improving their company as a whole. With their resourceful web-based tools, Payworks can facilitate payroll and human resources for a variety of companies. Most importantly, it can be done anytime and anywhere.
